thank u, next: The Magic Powers of a Playlist
We all have something small that takes us back to another time or place. Whether it's the smell of Pine trees that bring you right to Christmas, or the taste of your favorite childhood foods; our attachment and nostalgia to something so minute has always fascinated me. For me, music always triggers this feeling.
I'm always listening to music, and rarely leave the house without headphones. Songs become auditory chapters of my life. And now that I'm away from home, I've started to value my playlists a lot more because they are the perfect cure for homesickness; mostly because the music I listen to is attached to a certain time in my life. In this post, I'll dive into some of my favorite playlists I've made so far (Warning: some playlist include explicit songs).
As someone who is always listening to music, I'm constantly editing playlists of my current favorites or my mood. Since I've had the self- love anthem "thank u, next" by Ariana Grande on repeat, I've added it to my Fav Ariana playlist. I'm a big fan of Ariana's music and I put all her songs that I love into one spot. Making a playlist for a favorite artist is one of my favorite things to do because you can really see how that artist impacts you personally. I've basically grown up listening to Ariana and her music always puts me in a good mood:
The playlist I stream while I stream while I write (and that I'm streaming right now) is usually my "Laid Back" playlist. I usually write with light music in the background to keep the creativity flowing:
As someone who was born in 1998, the music that reminds me of my childhood are Disney originals and 2000's music. All these songs live on my Nostalgia playlist. This always takes me right back to school dances and covering my arms in Silly Bands. If you've ever wanted the Cheetah Girls and Soulja Boy on the same playlist, I've got you covered:
Those are all the playlists I'll be highlighting, but if you would like to follow my Spotify profile, feel free to take a listen. Also, I'd love to see your playlists and profiles in the comments. Thanks for reading!
